Los Angeles Galaxy star Zlatan Ibrahimovic sits down with TSN’s Kristian Jack to discuss making the move to MLS, almost giving up soccer to play hockey at a young age, his confidence on the pitch, the biggest moments in his illustrious career, his favourite quotes, and much more.

LA Galaxy Forward Zlatan Ibrahimović Scores 500th Career Goal

LA Galaxy Forward Zlatan Ibrahimović has become the third active player to reach 500 career goals across his senior career between club and country. After scoring a goal tonight against Toronto FC at BMO Field, he joined Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi as the only active players to have scored 500 senior goals for club and country.

POSTER: God of Goals

Throughout his senior career at the club level, Ibrahimović has made 747 appearances while scoring 438 goals and adding 167 assists across his time with Malmö FF, Ajax, Juventus, FC Internazionale, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris-Saint Germain, Manchester United and the LA Galaxy. For Sweden, he has made 114 senior appearances and scored 62 goals. Overall, Ibrahimović has won 33 total trophies throughout his distinguished career.

Ibrahimović now has scored 17 goals in 18 MLS appearances since joining the LA Galaxy, making him the second leading scorer in MLS. In total, Zlatan Ibrahimović has 17 goals and eight assists during his time with the LA Galaxy, including five game-winning goals.

LA Galaxy | Sigi Schmid has stepped down as LA Galaxy manager effective immediately

ESPN

Galaxy head coach; Dominic Kinnear to take over
6:17 PM CEST
ESPN

Sigi Schmid has stepped down as LA Galaxy manager effective immediately, the MLS club confirmed on Monday.

He will be replaced by Galaxy assistant coach Dominic Kinnear.

Schmid had returned to the club in July 2017 after then-coach Curt Onalfo was sacked.

Schmid had previously been in charge of the Galaxy for five years from 1999-2004 and won the MLS Cup in 2002.

He has also won the MLS Coach of the Year Award twice, first in 1999 and then again in 2008 when he won the MLS Supporters’ Shield/Cup double with Columbus Crew. Schmid also won the MLS Supporters’ Shield and four U.S. Open Cups with Seattle before he was fired in July of 2016.

Kinnear was hired as Schmid’s assistant in August of last year.

The former Houston Dynamo coach, who ranks third among MLS coaches with 166 career wins, joined Schmid’s staff after parting ways with the San Jose Earthquakes in June 2017.

The Galaxy are in eighth place in the Western Conference, two spots out of a playoff berth.

Official: Sigi Schmid resigns at LA Galaxy, Dominic Kinnear takes the reins

September 10, 201812:52PM EDT

With the LA Galaxy mired in a six-match winless stretch and on the outside of the playoff picture with six matches remaining, head coach Sigi Schmid has stepped down little over a year after taking the job, the Galaxy announced Monday. ESPN’s Taylor Twellman first reported the news on Monday morning.

Assistant Dominic Kinnear, who has more than a decade of MLS head coaching experience between Houston and San Jose, will take over on an interim basis.

Schmid, the winningest coach in MLS history, departs the post less than 14 months after he assumed it in late July of 2017 with the Galaxy amid a similar skid.

Since then, he has seen the arrival of international players like Zlatan IbrahimovicJonathan dos Santos and Jorgen Sjkelvik as well as well-known American MLS veterans Perry Kitchen and Chris Pontius.

But Schmid leaves with the Galaxy struggling again, three points beneath the playoff line and having played at least one match more than all but one of the six teams currently above said line.

Kinnear’s first task will be solidifying a defense that has conceded 18 goals over their winless stretch that most recently included a 6-2 defeat at Real Salt Lake on Sept. 1.

The match was the Galaxy’s second defeat by that scoreline to the Claret-and-Cobalt in as many seasons. The previous year, the loss came at home in Curt Onalfo’s third-to-last match in charge prior to Schmid’s arrival.

Real Salt Lake vs. LA Galaxy 6-2

Many dubbed Saturday’s meeting between Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy at Rio Tinto Stadium a ”six-pointer” in light of their proximity in the Western Conference playoff race and the outsize importance of the result on both sides’ postseason hopes.

Few would have guessed that the affair would turn out to feature six goals for the home side, however.

Though the Galaxy made a dream start when Jonathan dos Santos hammered home a delightful delivery from Ashley Cole just 33 seconds after the opening whistle, RSL torched LA’s persistently leaky back line to the tune of a 6-2 rout, paced by a well-taken hat trick from Damir Kreilach.

The Croatian was aided by two sweet strikes from playmaker Albert Rusnak, while Jefferson Savarino also found the net via a heavy deflection off Michael Ciani, one of several Galaxy defenders to struggle on the night.

The visitors’ woes were personified by the bloodied visage of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who had to change jerseys due to a cut – or perhaps the game’s adorable, winged pitch invader provided a better metaphor for LA, who were sitting ducks in the face of Salt Lake’s relentless waves of attack, and now face a tricky road to the postseason as their campaign slips further from their grasp.

Expressen vs. Zlatan

They said it was over. I said NO

Zlatan valdes till  ”LA Galaxy Allstate Man of the Match”.

Leo Razzak’s documentary tells about a player who chose to embrace Sweden, but in a new way. In Zlatan’s way.
