Caia Cosmetics has earned the condemnation of Reklamombudsmannen (RO) for misleading advertising. This is the statement on Caia Cosmetics' website:
CAIA Cosmetics is vehemently against animal testing and we do not sell our products in any markets that require the products to be tested on animals
According to the informer , the text is misleading because it gives the impression that there are beauty products tested on animals because some countries require it, which is not true because China has removed that requirement.
According to Beauty Icons AB (the advertiser), it is still unfortunately required to a large extent in China. It's all over the internet. The advertiser has attached a link to an article on djurensratt.se.
Reklamombudsmannen´s decision:
Reklamombudsmannen finds that the average consumer is likely to perceive the statement "CAIA Cosmetics is vehemently against animal testing and we do not sell our products in any markets that require the products to be tested on animals" as that Caia chooses not to market its products in markets that require the products to be tested on animals.
The advertiser has attached an article on djurensratt.se which is from March 2019. The Reklamombudsmannen does not find the article proves that one or more countries currently require certain products to require tests on animals. The advertising is therefore misleading and thus contrary to Article 5 of the ICC Rules.
